LAKE DOWN

The Windermere garden is a one-acre landscape renovation for a family of six that includes four active teenagers. Overlooking Lake Down horizon, the design addresses an intensely manicured landscape lacking spatial organization and shade. By introducing textural planting bands, granular pathways and seasonal wildflowers lawn maintenance practices will be reduced by seventy-percent.

Proposed and relocated trees will screen adjacent properties to create a greater sense of privacy for the family while framing views from interior spaces. Along the lake edge, a series of terraced retaining walls establish a plinth to regulate topographic changes and create space for beach activities including a series of rope swings. A proposed sculpture located within the terraced lake edge will be identified by passing boaters during the day and while illuminated at night.
