NAUTILUS
Nautilus is a two-story modern home situated on a compact site within the City of Miami Beach. Working closely with our clients, an avid art collecting couple with three energetic herding dogs, we crafted an intimate landscape design where interior and exterior boundaries are blurred. Our design strategy extends the interior material vocabulary into the landscape by coordinating a series of interior-exterior paving fields that are viewed as one continuous surface. A majority of the planting is pulled away from the home to provide space for a dense textural buffer between neighboring properties. In collaboration with the architect, we opened generous views toward the landscape through the use of floor to ceiling windows that allows the perimeter planting buffer to become a wall within the home. Permeable linear concrete pavers are staggered to connect the front and backyard spaces while providing a running pathway for the client’s dogs to play unattended. The living spaces are extended outward from the home and connect to a lap pool with a cascading water weir that diffuses nearby traffic noise.
